Description
Assignment 2 (60%): Evaluation of Lighting Design. This assignment will develop your ability to identify and develop lighting design strategies for architectural spaces.
Visit the interior of your nearest McDonalds restaurant. If a McDonalds is inaccessible to you, contact your lecturer to discuss alternative spaces to visit.
Conduct a critique of the lighting of the space.
Your analysis should include the following:
A brief description of the space,
An analysis of the function of a space, in terms of the visual tasks required,
A critique of the effectiveness of the current lighting, and
A suggested alternative approach.
The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of the information for this course and your ability to conduct your own academic research.
Submit as a fully referenced (APA format) essay of 1000 words.
Word limit does not include referencing.

• An immensely creative and innovative analysis based on flawless knowledge of relevant course modules and the examination of unique research
• Flawless demonstration of academic writing ability, which includes, but are not limited to:
Exceptional formatting (as requested in the assignment instructions)
An appropriate balance of descriptive, analytical and persuasive writing
A thoroughly planned organisational structure
• Demonstration of a thoroughly considered response to all aspects of the assignment instructions
• Outstanding knowledge of posts on the elearning Discussion Board
• A concise relationship between the selected interior and your knowledge of light
Distinction (75%-84%)
• A creative and/or innovative analysis based on excellent knowledge of course modules and self guided research
• Excellent demonstration of academic writing ability; which includes, but are not limited to:
Excellent formatting (as requested in the assignment instructions)
A good balance of descriptive, analytical and persuasive writing
A well planned organisational structure
• Demonstration of a well considered response to all aspects of the assignment instructions
• Detailed knowledge of posts on the elearning Discussion Board
• A close relationship between the selected interior and your knowledge of light
Credit (65%-74%)
• A clear and logical analysis based on good knowledge of course modules and self guided research
• Good demonstration of academic writing ability, which includes, but are not limited to:
Good formatting (as requested in the assignment instructions)
A reasonable balance of descriptive, analytical and persuasive writing
A planned organisational structure
• Response all aspects of the assignment instructions
• Good knowledge of posts on the elearning Discussion Board
• A clear relationship between the selected interior and your knowledge of light
Pass (50%-64%)
• Knowledge of most aspects of applicable course modules and demonstration of relevant credible research
• Demonstration of academic writing skills, which includes, but are not limited to:
Reasonable formatting (as requested in the assignment instructions)
An attempt to present aspects of analytical and persuasive writing
An organisational structure as expected at a tertiary level
• A response to almost all aspects of the assignment instructions
• Reasonable knowledge of posts on the elearning Discussion Board
• If images or diagrams are used, they form a relationship to the discussion and could not be considered superfluous
• General knowledge examples are not used excessively
• A reasonable relationship between the selected interior and your knowledge of light
Fail (< 50%)
The completed assessment item fails to demonstrate satisfactory achievement of one or more of the learning outcomes:
• Inability to present knowledge or understanding of most aspects of applicable course modules
• Vast quantities of the essay is obscured due to poor comprehension skills
• Little or no demonstration of academic/credible research
• Poor demonstration of the capacity to interpret and or follow assignment instructions
• Superfluous use or diagrams, images and/or examples
• Severe word limit breaches
• No clear relationship between your knowledge of light and the selected interior
Resubmissions
Student who fails this assignment may resubmit within two weeks of receiving feedback. If the resubmission would earn a pass or better, the student will receive a pass (50%) for this assignment.
